Mrs. Ruth Crain, 83, a life time resident of Covington, died at 5:15 a.m. today (Jan. 24, 1974) at the Tall Trees Nursing Home in Covington. She had been ill some time. Born, Oct. 4, 1880, near Covington, the daughter of Walter Frildon and Sarah Rogers Huffer. She was married Sept. 8, 1909 to Mont L. Crain, who died Oct. 19, 1950,. A graduate of Covington High, she taught school prior to her marriage. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was active in the Win One Class and WSCS for many years. She also sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for 50 years. Mrs. Cain was given a Bible by the church in honor of her services. She was a 50-year member and past matron of the Troy Chapter 145 Order of Eastern Star and a past chief of the Pythian Sisters Lodge. She was a 52-year member and past president of the Booklovers Club and also was active in the Covington Business and Professional Women's Club, Troy Township Home Demonstration Club and chorus and Fountain County Choral Club. Mrs. Crain also was a former president of the County Chapters of Order of Eastern Star and a former representative in the Order of Eastern Star to Puerto Rico. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Roy (Lula) Hunt of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Mrs. Norris L. (Dorothy) Rhodes of Marco Island FL, a son, Don of Covington; three grandsons, Jerry, Bradley, and Randy; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert H. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home. -- typed by: tch
